Mayhem in Finland next year 2026
Black metal legends MAYHEM will come to Finland next year with their new «Death Over Europe Tour 2026″. The concert will be at the venue Kulttuuritalo (Helsinki) on February 26th .
MAYHEM was formed in 1984. They were one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene, and their music has profoundly influenced the black metal genre. MAYHEM‘s early career was marked by several controversies, including their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin («Dead«), and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth («Euronymous») by former bassist Varg Vikernes («Count Grishnackh»). The group released a demo and an EP, that were highly influential and amassed a devoted following, through sporadic and notorious live performances, while attracting further attention due to their connections with the series of Norwegian church burnings and the incidents of violence surrounding them. MAYHEM temporarily disbanded following Aarseth‘s murder, shortly before the release of their debut album, «De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas», which is regarded as a classic of the black metal genre. Surviving former members Jan Axel Blomberg («Hellhammer»), Jørn Stubberud («Necrobutcher»), and Sven Erik Kristiansen («Maniac») reformed the band in 1995, with Rune Eriksen («Blasphemer») replacing Aarseth. Attila Csihar, Morten Iversen («Teloch») and Charles Edward Alexander Hedger («Ghul») since replaced Kristiansen and Eriksen, respectively. Their post-Aarseth material is characterized by increased experimentation. The 2007 album «Ordo Ad Chao», received the Spellemann Award for Best Heavy Metal Album. Their seventh full-length studio album, «Liturgy of Death» will be release next year via Century Media.
Special guests for the evening will be Swedish black metal squad MARDUK and American death metal band IMMOLATION.
MARDUK was formed in Norrköping in 1990. The band released their debut full-length album «Dark Endless» in 1992 on No Fashion Records. Their name is taken from the Ancient Babylonian deity, Marduk. Concerning the thematic nature of MARDUK‘s lyrics, the lyrics primarily incorporate Satanism, anti-Christianity, blasphemy, death, Third Reich history, and World War II. MARDUK began incorporating the war themes on their 1999 album, «Panzer Division Marduk», which continued on in later years such as «The Hangman of Prague» on 2004’s «Plague Angel», the title being a reference to Reinhard Heydrich — second in command of the SS — in his capacity as the de facto Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia. They have released fifteen studio albums so far, their latest «Memento Mori» was released in 2023 via Century Media Records.
IMMOLATION was formen in Yonkers, New York. They are considered one of the leaders of the New York death metal scene along with INCANTATION, MORTICIAN and SUFFOCATION. The band has released twelfth studio album, their latest «Descent» was released this year via Nuclear Blast. Their line-up consists of Ross Dolan (vocals and bass) and Steve Shalaty (drums), Robert Vigna (lead guitar) and Alex Bouks (rhythm guitar).
