47 NAMES CONFIRMED FOR GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2015
Two decades of Graspop Metal Meeting next year and that calls for a super heavy line-up. Five headliners have already been confirmed: Kiss, Slipknot and Scorpions will lead the charge together with Judas Priest and Korn. Other top acts include Alice Cooper, Motörhead, In Flames, Body Count, Within Temptation, Five Finger Death Punch and Godsmack. Tickets are going on sale in the first week of December.
On 19th, 20th and 21st June 2015, Skully will once again reign supreme on the Stenehei in Dessel. Three days of metal madness and over 100 metal bands on five separate stages will shake the festival grounds to its foundations. Their mission: giving tens of thousands of heavy metal acolytes the time of their lives at the Low Countries’ annual high mass of eardrum-splitting guitars, angry riffs, high-pitched screams, wrist-fracturing drumbeats and brutal grunts.
The recipe for our 20th anniversary edition hasn’t changed. As always, we are looking to create the perfect mix between legendary top acts, up-and-coming metal violence and the occasional surprising newcomer. There are still quite a few names to be announced but the current line-up is already a mouthwatering prospect.
KISS
KISS have been the undisputed flag bearers of theatrical hard rock for over four decades. From the very outset in 1973, founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, the only members remaining from the original line-up, focused on the visual aspect with the band members’ painted faces and outrageous stage outfits. By the time they abandoned the face paint, KISS had earned a reputation as one of the best-selling acts of the seventies. They continued to make history in the eighties with a string of gold records while on stage they can always count on the unwavering support of the gigantic ‘KISS army’. Released to universal critical acclaim, 2012’s ‘Monster’ confirmed that Kiss are as hot as ever.
Slipknot
With five previous appearances, Slipknot are GMM regulars and now they’re back for episode six of their ongoing Graspop campaign. The travelling Des Moines freak show has earned its place as one of the top dogs in today’s metal hierarchy, a status they confirmed once again last October with the release of their fifth studio album, ‘5: The Gray Chapter’. An uncompromising metal headbutt, the new CD is a strong contender for metal album of the year. Paul Gray’s musical heritage proves that a new generation of major headliners is starting to emerge.
Scorpions
Any band that keeps millions of fans spellbound for nearly half a century can rightfully be called living legends. In 1976, ‘Virgin Killer’ made headlines across the globe, partly because of the then controversial album cover, but the music struck a chord as well. The singles ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ and especially ‘Still loving You’ became instant classics. The subsequent records took the US by storm and Scorpions became the first Western rock band to perform in the former Soviet Union. 1990’s ‘Crazy World’ also sold millions of copies thanks to the worldwide hit ‘Wind of Change’. Their 2011 farewell tour turned out to be less final than expected so next summer these seasoned warriors are giving yet another stadium rock masterclass.
