Doom German gigants AHAB were back last autumn with their latest record The Boats of the «Glen Carrig». An Album that they classified as the darkest, they have ever record so far. The band was inspired in William Hope Hodson´s masterpiece, a story about a ship which was lost in the sea. Although we might seem lost too, METALCRY would like to rescue this interview and share with you what we talked with the band months ago….Enjoy!!!
AHAB have a new record called The Boats of the «Glen Carrig». What can you tell us about it?
Is our forth record so far, it´s lyrically inspired of William Hope Hodson´s Horror story with the same titled of this album. We recorded at the same studio as we did our previous album. We have worked really hard on this album and we have spent load of time in the studio recording it. We have been experimenting with different instruments. We are quite proud of the result.
What could you tell us about the recording process?
The songs were written in Jam sessions, it was all kind of improvised. Regarding, the recording point of view we wanted to do something new this time, we partly recorded live this record to get more like a band playing together feeling. It´s kind of a project where all the instrument are together, in my opinion is good mixture between producing and recording.
We found the art work of this Album, very appealing. Who is behind the art work?
Art work was done by Sebatian Jerke is very professional artist, the scene represents how we see the book from the outside.
Why is this album inspired in The Boats of the «Glen Carrig»?
It is actually a good question, a fan of us suggested us on Facebook to read this book.
He thought it would be a good idea and it has worked out very well. Is a story that fits in the way we write music, is very dark and heavy.
What would you say is the main differences between The Boats of the «Glen Carrig» and The gigant?
I think it could be the sound, it remains more of the old stuff of the band, is a heavier album, is darker.
There is this song in the Album “The Weedmen” that I really enjoy. What can you tell us about this piece?
Is describing the part in the book where they are hunting the monster for the first time. It has nothing to do with weed. (Chuckles)
Why should we purchase The Boats of the «Glen Carrig»?
Is not an easy album to listen to, and that´s the beauty of it I think. Is an album that the more you listen to it, the more you´ll like it. Is an album that would stand out from other bands material because of the horror theme that surrounds the record and the way music marriages with the lyrics. It´s a good package.
AHAB has been together for ten years. Will you be doing something special to celebrate this anniversary?
We missed the date.We have been so busy working in this new album that we totally forgot about it. We wanted to do some shows over Germany, but we got overwhelmed. Maybe, for the fifteenth anniversary.
Last summer you played in well-known festivals such as HELLFEST. How was the experience?
It was beautiful, such a well organised festival. We played one of our latest songs and people loved it. We are hoping to do more festivals next summer.
Any touring plans soon?
We started our tour last October, we are hoping to get more dates for summer festivals as I said and we are hoping to be touring in Spain very soon, is a cool country to play.
